Winter Recess

Emory University announces that it will close most academic and administrative offices for Winter Recess, the three days between the Christmas and New Year holidays, in 2019 and in future years. The intent of Winter Recess is to provide a time for many faculty and staff to relax and refresh at the end of the year, in recognition of their hard work, dedication and commitment.

HR Appointments
Last week, Christopher Augostini, EVP for Business and Administration, announced the vice president of human resource appointments of Del King and Theresa Milazzo. Del and Theresa have served as interim vice presidents for the human resources division since September 2018 and will now jointly lead Emory’s human resource department as vice presidents. Eagle Row Pedestrian Bridge Closed for Repairs
The Eagle Row pedestrian bridge will be closed Monday, May 20, through Monday, June 10, for repairs. Pedestrians are encouraged to take the alternate routes available along Michael Street and Eagle Row to the sidewalk located on Clifton Road. Please see the bridge detours map for additional information about the closing.


Summer Walking Groups Start June 12
The Move More Challenge may be over, but that doesn’t mean you need to stop getting steps! Join us for one of these summer walking groups on Wednesdays, June 12 through July 17:

  • Meet Me @ the Quad: An early morning outdoor walking group to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures around the Quad! Wednesdays at 7:30 am. Register now.

  • Meet Me @ the Tunnel: - An indoor walking group through Emory University Hospital’s animated tunnel, Wednesdays at 12:00 pm. Register now.

New Webinar: Teaching Your Child Responsibility
Children can learn to become responsible adults. In this webinar, you will review the characteristics of a responsible child, from accountability to fulfilling obligations. You will then discuss the importance of effective feedback, appropriate rewards and other steps to raising a responsible child. You will explore the role of self-esteem in the process and the negative impact of using guilt and arbitrary rules. There is an emphasis on the parents' role in shaping responsible behavior. Get an Intern with the Rollins Earn and Learn (REAL) Program
Need to hire a graduate student for a public health or health-related project? Don’t have much in your hiring budget? What if we told you that you could hire a competent and eager RSPH student for only $6.75/hour? That’s right! Through The Rollins Earn and Learn (REAL) Program, students are paid $13.50/hour and can earn up to $2,500 a semester. You pay 50% and Rollins School of Public Health pays the other 50% of the student’s salary.

The Rollins Earn and Learn (REAL) Program, provides students the opportunity to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom while also providing Emory partners with highly qualified and motivated employees. Students can help you with projects including needs assessment, program evaluation, training and curriculum development, health communication and campaigns, program planning, development and implementation, survey design, community development, research and analysis, policy development and more. Emory Startup Launch Accelerator Program: Call for Applicants
After a successful 2018 cohort, the Emory Startup Launch Accelerator program is now accepting applications from teams for a Fall 2019 cohort. This program, funded by a grant from the Goizueta Creativity and Innovation Initiative, is offered to help early stage founders through a defined process that will help teams rapidly take their ideas and test them with customers to discard, change and build a business model to move the startup forward. The 10-week program begins October 3rd. Applications are now open.  It’s a free program, open to the entire Emory community (students, faculty, staff and alumni), to help build and enhance Emory’s entrepreneurial spirit by helping create successful startups.
