Flu and COVID-19 Vaccinations

Getting the flu and COVID-19 vaccines (shots) is the best way to reduce your risk of getting sick and spreading it to others.

Emory University strongly encourages students, faculty, and staff to follow public health guidance and stay up to date with flu and COVID-19 vaccine recommendations according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As of September 2023, everyone 6 months and older should get 1 dose of the updated Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Review the CDC guidelines for more details and recommendations. COVID-19 vaccine guidance will continue to be updated as needed.

Emory University students and employees working in a healthcare facility will be required to follow the guidance and vaccine recommendations of the facility where they work.

Emory employees covered by Emory University or Healthcare medical insurance pay $0 for the vaccine at in-network locations. Employees covered under the Emory Medical Plan can also utilize the pharmacy benefits for flu and COVID-19 vaccines at $0 at CVS and other participating pharmacies such as Walgreens, Costco, Sam’s Club, and Publix.

How to Get a Flu and COVID-19 vaccines

As an Emory University employee, you have several options for getting your flu and COVID-19 vaccines:

OPTION 1 (Recommended): The best way to get your vaccines is through your local pharmacy.

  • If you are on an Aetna Plan, visit any in-network retail pharmacy such as CVS, Walgreens, Target, Publix, or Kroger. You will need to present your Emory CVS/Caremark prescription drug card to get your free vaccines.
  • If you are on the Kaiser Plan, attend one of the Kaiser Walk-In Flu Clinics offered Monday-Friday 8am-5pm at their medical office locations (no appointment is necessary).

OPTION 2: Get your vaccines as part of your preventive exam at your doctor's office. Flu and COVID-19 vaccines are free of charge for Aetna or Kaiser Plans, but for the Aetna Plans, you must use Tier 1 and Tier 2 doctors only. Note: if you've already had your annual preventive exam and make an appointment to get your flu or COVID-19 vaccine, you may be charged for the visit.
