UNPAID TIME OFF

Types of unpaid time off include:


arrow  FAMILY MEDICAL LEAVE (FMLA)

Employees that are eligible may take up to 12 workweeks of unpaid, job-protected leave under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) in a rolling 12-month period for specified family and medical reasons.

Employees should submit requests and view status for FMLA or Medical Leave online through Self-Service. The employee's supervisor/manager and departmental Human Resource Representative are immediately notified via e-mail when a request is submitted.  Employees receive e-mail notification when leave has been approved.

 

arrow  MEDICAL LEAVE (NON FMLA)

If an employee does not meet the eligibility criteria under FMLA, he or she may be eligible for unpaid medical leave. For more information, view the Medical Leave (non-FMLA) Policy or contact Employee Relations at 404-727-8280.

 

arrow  EDUCATIONAL LEAVE

In support of an employee pursuing educational opportunities that enhance an employee's ability to perform his or her job more effectively, expand their personal and professional growth or pursue an Emory career path, Emory provides educational leave.

An educational leave of absence without pay (up to a maximum of two years) may be granted to regular employees working at least 20 hours per week, with at least one year of service with the University. Eligible employees are permitted to one leave every five years. View the Educational Leave Policy

Employees requesting educational leave should use the Non Medical Leave Request Form to request leave.

 

arrow  SEASONAL LEAVE

A regular employee working a minimum of 20 hours per week may be placed on seasonal leave without pay for a period not to exceed 90 calendar days when there is a break in active employment due to lack of available work in that department. An employee who is on seasonal leave has the option to use his or her unused vacation leave, holiday hours or floating holidays, or take leave without pay during this period. arrow  PERSONAL LEAVE

A regular employee working a minimum of 20 hours per week may be granted leave for personal reasons with approval from his or her department and Human Resources. View the Personal Leave Policy.

Employees requesting personal leave should use the Non Medical Leave Request Form to request leave.

 

arrow  MILITARY LEAVE

In accordance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) and Georgia law, Emory provides military leave to its employees. USERRA provides guidelines for employees who elect military leave and for the prompt reemployment of employees who left employment to perform military training or service in one of the uniformed services and who have completed such service under honorable conditions.
