Positive Test, Symptoms, or Exposure

If you experience a COVID-19 event (test positive, develop symptoms, or are exposed), follow the instructions below.

What to do if you experience a COVID-19 event?

Immediately call the COVID-19 nurse line at 404-71-COVID (404-712-6843).

  • Identify as a University employee
  • Provide the nurse with your information and details of the situation (positive test, exposure, symptoms)

If you have a COVID-19 positive test or symptoms:

ISOLATE: Stay at home and do not leave your house for work, groceries, etc. The only time you should leave your house during isolation is for medical appointments. Please wear a mask if you must attend a medical or test appointment.

MONITOR: Monitor yourself daily for COVID-19 symptoms.

CALL: Report your positive test or symptoms to the COVID-19 nurse line.

RESPOND: Please respond to calls from the Emory Contact Tracing Team and Office of Injury Management (OIM).

INFORM: Let your supervisor know that you have tested positive and/or have COVID-19 symptoms and will need to be out of work until OIM returns you to work.*

If you have had an exposure to a COVID-19 positive person:

QUARANTINE: Stay at home and do not leave your house for work, groceries, etc. The only time you should leave your house during quarantine is for medical appointments. Please wear a mask if you must attend a medical or test appointment.

MONITOR: Monitor yourself daily for COVID-19 symptoms.

CALL: Report your exposure to the COVID-19 nurse line.

TEST: Schedule and Complete COVID-19 PCR testing between days 5-8 after the last date of exposure.

RESPOND: Please respond to calls from the Emory Contact Tracing Team throughout your quarantine period.

INFORM: Let your supervisor know that you have had an exposure and will need to be out of work until the Contact Tracing team releases you to return to work.*

*Employees who are well enough can work from home. However, they cannot return to campus until OIM or the Emory Contact Tracing team provides the return to work/campus documentation.

COVID-19 Symptoms

Persons who have COVID-19 symptoms may exhibit some of the following new or worsening symptoms (symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus):

  • Fever or chills
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache
  • New loss of taste or smell
  • Sore throat
  • Congestion or runny nose
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Diarrhea
