Emory Launches New Strategic Framework -
One Emory: Engaged for Impact

Last week, Emory University launched One Emory: Engaged for Impact, an aspirational strategic framework with the goal of ensuring Emory will be recognized as a leading research university that fosters excellence and attracts world-class talent to innovate today and prepare leaders for the future. The framework is composed of four pillars with accompanying aspirations and goals. Visit one.emory.edu, an internal website, to learn of the latest investments in our strategic initiatives, opportunities for community members to become involved, to comment and ask questions, and to find out about meetings and events you may wish to attend.

Emory Healthcare Welcomes DeKalb Medical
As of September 1, 2018, DeKalb Medical is now part of Emory Healthcare. This means that Emory’s medical plan network has grown, giving you access to more physicians and locations to receive care.

DeKalb Medical facilities have been renamed:

  • DeKalb Medical at North Decatur is now Emory Decatur Hospital.
  • DeKalb Medical at Hillandale is now Emory Hillandale Hospital.
  • DeKalb Medical Long Term Acute Care in downtown Decatur is now Emory Long-Term Acute Care.

Additionally, Emory’s three networks will now be referred to as:

  • Tier 1: Formerly known as the Emory Healthcare Network, the Tier 1 Network now includes the Emory Healthcare Network (EHN) along with new Emory facilities: Emory Decatur, Emory Hillandale, and Emory Long Term Acute Care facilities.  Tier 1 additionally includes all EHN and DeKalb Physician Hospital Organization (DPHO) providers. This network’s facilities and providers offer the lowest copays, coinsurance and deductibles.

  • Tier 2: Formerly known as the Aetna In-Network, the Tier 2 Network includes providers and facilities contracted through Aetna’s national network. Copays, coinsurance and deductibles are higher than Tier 1 providers.

  • Tier 3: Formerly known as Out-of-Network, this network includes providers and facilities not participating in Aetna and has the highest costs associated with it.

Winship Cancer Institute’s Win the Fight 5K
The Winship Cancer Institute’s Win the Fight 5K will take place on Saturday, October 13th on the Emory University Quadrangle on Dowman Drive. Registration for the Peachtree Road Race qualifier is now open at winship5k.emory.edu.

For the second year, nine-time NBA All-Star and Hall of Fame inductee Dominique Wilkins will serve as the grand marshal. Anyone who is unable to attend in person has an option to join virtually, donate to the cause, and be recognized.

New this year: participants will be able to direct their tax-deductible donations to benefit the Winship 5K Professorship fund.  Contributions can be made to 17 other Winship cancer research funds as well.

Our course introduces participants to the field of Business Intelligence (BI), with emphasis on descriptive analytics. The program employs applied training techniques with participants forming data analytics teams to solve business problems and identify solutions with practical applications. More experienced/advanced data professionals may opt for our advanced Big Data/Data Analytics program.

Big Data and Data Analytics - Next Program Begins Saturday, September 15
The program includes practice and lab components to address the applications of Big Data in real world situations. Topics include: data structure, warehousing, data mining and analysis, pattern recognition, trend analysis, data relevancy, data modeling, predictive and descriptive analytics, data visualization techniques and more.
