Emory Leaders Receive HR Excellence Awards

Two Emory leaders have received HR Excellence Awards from the Atlanta Business Chronicle and SHRM-Atlanta (Society for Human Resource Management). Mary Beth Allen, Chief Human Resources Officer of Emory Healthcare, was honored with the Chief Human Resources Officer of the Year award. Wanda Hayes, Senior Director of Learning and Organizational Development, received the award for Best Learning & Development and Talent Management Strategy. Read more.

Emory’s annual Award of Distinction is the university’s most prestigious award for staff, recognizing those who have made outstanding contributions to the Emory community. Nominations for the award will open later this summer with a submission deadline of August 29, 2019. More details on the nomination process will be announced soon.

FY19 Performance Management Forms Are Now Available
If you haven’t done so already, you should begin working on your year-end performance management form(s). These forms are available in Self-Service/PeopleSoft (click on the Performance Management tile, then My Current Documents). The due date shown reflects the end of the fiscal year (8/31/2019). In most cases, self-evaluations should be completed by 8/1/2019 so that your manager has enough time to review your form, schedule your meeting, and finalize the process by 8/31. If your division has already contacted you with a separate due date for your self-evaluation, please use that date in lieu of 8/1. For assistance, review our step-by-step guides:


Diabetes Prevention Program Information Sessions
The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) is a one-year, small group program that teaches you how to eat healthy, increase your physical activity and manage your stress in order to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. This national program was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is now available for Emory faculty and staff. Join the Emory Healthy Aging Study to Help Us Fight Alzheimer’s and Other Age-Related Disorders
The Emory Healthy Aging Study is a game-changing effort to further our scientific understanding of how we age, and to learn more about the average human lifespan, diseases and neurological disorders like Dementia and Alzheimer’s disease that occur more commonly in later years. It is the largest gerontology-based educational research study targeting Atlanta ever conducted at Emory University. The Healthy Aging Study hopes to build a massive public health database by recruiting a large number of participants to take part in the study over a long period of time. We will keep involvement as simple and easy as possible. Learn how you can participate.

Green Offices at Emory Seeking Members
Calling all Emory faculty, staff, and students: do you strive to help others make sustainable choices? Well, luckily for you, Emory’s Office of Sustainability Initiatives is seeking new members to join the Green Office advisory team. Green Offices at Emory is a voluntary program designed to improve the sustainability of Emory’s work spaces. The program focuses on energy, water efficiency and conservation, recycling and waste reduction, procurement, and creating a healthy culture of office sustainability. Members will have the opportunity to contribute ideas that align with Emory’s 2025 Sustainability Vision. Looking for Help with Projects Around the Office?
Have you looked around your office and said we need to get our files organized or we have a project that we need an extra person or two to finish, but our department budget is under tight control. The Federal Work Study (FWS) program could be your answer. The program provides undergraduate students the opportunity to gain real life work experiences in an Emory department or with one of our off campus partners. The federal government is responsible for 70% of the hourly wage and the department is responsible for only 30%. Review your budget and your laundry list of items to complete and consider hiring a work study student.
