Giving Voice: The Rest of His Story with Dr. Marion Hood
Join us for a Virtual Event, Thursday, June 17, 2021, Noon – 1 pm

In 1959, Dr. Marion G. Hood applied to Emory School of Medicine, but was denied consideration for admission due to his race during a painful time of segregation in this country. Despite this obstacle, Dr. Hood went on to have a long and distinguished career in the field of gynecology and obstetrics.
During our virtual celebration of Juneteenth, Emory School of Medicine will formally apologize to Dr. Hood and invite him to share the rest of his story with our SOM community. His message of tenacity and resilience in the quest to be a physician will inspire our students, faculty and staff. Learn more and register.

New and Improved Pathway for Requesting Workplace Accommodations
With the support of the Office of the Provost and the Vice Provost for the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the Department of Accessibility Services (DAS) has implemented a new module of the database system, Accommodate.  Accommodate is a robust, interactive web-based database which provides login platforms for faculty and staff across the Emory enterprise for the purpose of managing ADA workplace and parking accommodation requests.  The system protects confidential information about the employee and allows more transparency and communication between the employee and DAS staff.  The Accommodate module for employees will allow DAS to streamline our processes and compile reports that can offer valuable insight. Rather than submitting forms and medical documentation by fax or email, all employees are encouraged to submit any new accommodation requests by visiting this Accommodate link: https://hr-emory-accommodate.symplicity.com/public_accommodation.

Upload your Vaccine Card by July 1
Beginning July 1, any faculty or staff member who is not fully vaccinated will be required to conduct weekly screening testing. To prepare for this policy change, all faculty and staff members will need to share their vaccination status with Emory by July 1.

  • Faculty and staff members who scheduled their vaccination appointment through the university HOME portal and received their vaccine through Emory will not need to complete additional steps at this time. Your vaccination status should be reflected in HOME. To verify, log in to your HOME employee portal, click on the “My Medical Information” tab, and review vaccines listed under current immunizations. For more information on how to use the HOME portal click here.

  • Faculty and staff members who received their vaccine through a non-Emory provider or as an Emory patient (but did not use the HOME portal) will need to upload their COVID-19 vaccination documentation via the HOME employee portal. Please review instructions here.

Blomeyer Reopens July 1

  • Reducing equipment availability for social distancing purposes.
  • Limiting hours of operation for increased sanitization and cleaning of the facility.
  • Requiring face masks to be always worn while in the facility.
  • The restrooms will be open, but no showers will be permitted in the facility at this time.

To activate your Blomeyer Health Fitness Center membership, you must come in person and sign an updated or new member agreement. All members who sign-up in July will receive the month of July for FREE! For more information, visit the Blomeyer’s webpage.

Do You Wonder What Your Child’s Thinking? So Do We
Have you ever wondered how your child grows? How your baby learns about the world? What and how children think and remember? How they change as they get older and move from one developmental stage to the next? We would like to find out and you and your child can help! You and your children (age newborn-17 years) are invited to participate in engaging and active ONLINE research studies on child development with the Emory Child Study Center,  where we study language, learning, memory, and how children understand space and numbers. Since all studies are ONLINE, you may participate from anywhere in the country! Most studies last around one hour (weekend & evening appointments available) and are designed to be like games for the children, to make sure they enjoy their experience. Your child will receive a gift card and is sure to have a good time! Registering for our studies is easy.
