Paid Parental Leave

Emory University staff now have access to a new benefit, paid parental leave. The new Parental Leave Policy provides three weeks of paid leave to eligible fulltime university staff, post-doctoral fellows, and librarians who experience the birth or adoption of a child on June 1, 2016 or later. New Overtime Ruling will Impact University Employees
Changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act recently announced by the U.S. Department of Labor are expected to impact approximately 1,000 Emory employees, making them eligible for overtime. Read more.


Move More Challenge is Coming Back – Save the Dates
Last fall, more than 6,000 employees from Emory University and Emory Healthcare walked more than one million miles in the Move More Challenge. Challenge participants used a Fitbit device to track their activity, set goals and compete with their friends and co-workers. This popular event is coming back this fall! Mark your calendars: registration will be Aug. 10 – Sept. 9 and the Challenge will take place Sept. 19 – Nov. 13, 2016. More details coming soon!

Better Choice Initiative Makes it Easier for Employees to Make Healthy Food Decisions

New labels on selected entrees and side items at campus dining facilities will help identify the "Better Choice" for healthy eating, thanks to a collaboration among Emory University, Emory Healthcare and Bon Appetit. Read more.


Emory University Wants You to “DUMP THE PUMP”
Emory University Transportation Services in partnership with the Clifton Corridor Transportation Management Association, GA Commute Options and MARTA wants you to try transit for a week and “Dump the Pump.” National “Dump the Pump Week” is June 13th thru June 17th.  Employees who are interested in trying bus or rail will have an opportunity to register for a complimentary MARTA Breeze™ card pre-loaded with 10 trips.  Registration runs thru June 3. Learning and Organizational Development Announces Upcoming Course Schedule
Learning and Organizational Development’s general enrollment class offerings for May through November 2016 have been announced. Participants can customize their professional development by choosing courses to meet their professional development needs and interests. A range of dynamic courses are offered. Colorful Choices Challenge Concludes
Emory’s six-week nutrition challenge, Colorful Choices ended on May 15. Over 1,700 employees of Emory University and Emory Healthcare signed on to take the challenge, striving to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day.  Participants who earned at least 200+ points during the six-week challenge were entered into a drawing for a chance to win an Amazon gift card. The randomly selected winners are listed on the Colorful Choices webpage.


Clifton Road Improvements
Clifton Streetscape, a project to improve access, safety and aesthetics along Clifton Road, is slated to begin in mid-to-late June and continue until late spring/summer 2017. Expect lane closures during the construction. Read more.

Summer Caregiver Workshop Series
The Emory WorkLife Resource Center is sponsoring a summer workshop series for caregivers. The series is designed to help employees and their families manage some of the most common and complex issues pertaining to caring for an aging or sick adult. These workshops provide caregivers guidance and empower them with more control and knowledge. Kicking off the series will be an elder law attorney discussing Legal and Ethical Considerations for Caregivers. This will be followed by a workshop on keeping your loved one at home and unraveling the mysteries of Medicare.  Learn more.


Summer Webinar Series Focuses on Wellness Topics
A summer webinar series will feature a variety of wellness topics – learn more about these subjects in just 30 minutes without even having to leave your desk: Strength Training Do’s and Don’ts, Four Keys to Healthy Eating Out, Rethink Your Drink, Stress Resilience: Bouncing Forward and Thriving, and Mindfulness 101.
