Coronavirus Updates for The Emory Community

Emory’s commitment to the health and safety of our community is paramount. A team of representatives from emergency preparedness, health care, campus life and other units is meeting and keeping a close eye on the outbreak to protect students, faculty, staff and visitors. We also continue to work closely with local and state partners.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued new guidance regarding travelers returning to the U.S. from countries that have a Level 3 travel health notice (wide-spread, ongoing transmission). These countries include China, Iran, Italy and South Korea. The new guidance requires travelers stay home for 14 days from the time they left these countries in order to maintain social distancing. Effectively immediately, Emory University will observe this guidance for all returning travelers, including faculty staff, and students. This means that all returning travelers must wait 14 days before returning to campus; travelers returning from these areas are prohibited from all areas of campus, including residence halls, classrooms, dining facilities, athletic facilities, workspaces and other university common space, as well as at other off-campus gatherings.

For more information on COVID-19 at Emory, continue to check the website, Emory’s Coronavirus updates for the Emory community on a regular basis.

Striving to remain calm, in control, present and energetic while caring for children/adolescents is challenging, especially given other family or work priorities. This interactive panel discussion, hosted by the Emory WorkLife Resource Center and the Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP), will offer stress management strategies, parenting tips and available resources to enhance your toolkit, peace of mind and overall self-care. Whether you are parenting infants, teens or young adults, panelists will address the broad spectrum with a holistic approach. Tuesday, March 31, 2020, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Register.

Webinar: Changing Relationships - You and Your Aging Parent/Relative
Learn how to communicate more calmly and productively with aging parents who can no longer live independently. Most adult children find it difficult to talk to parents about their decline in physical and mental abilities, outside care services they may need, and the possibility of new living arrangements. To make this process easier, the seminar will present you with techniques that overcome common communication barriers when elders are resistant, angry, or unwilling to listen. You will also explore helpful assumptions about aging and how to understand the loss of independence from the parent's perspective. The seminar will conclude with a summary of how to assess activities of daily living, available care options, and a list of resources for aging adults. Presented by WorkPlace Options. March 25, 2020, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm. Register.
