Employee Orientation

Attending orientation in a timely manner is important. Employees not enrolled in benefits within 31 days from the date of hire or eligibility may be required to wait until the annual open enrollment period to enroll. View Faculty & Staff New Employee Orientation Guide

Eligibility

New employees and current employees who have changed to a benefit eligible status must attend an Orientation Session with Human Resources within five calendar days from the date of employment or change.

Employees eligible for benefits include:

• Regular employees who are employed to work at least 20 hours per week
• Temporary, full-time employees who are employed to work for a period of at least six consecutive months

Attending orientation in a timely manner is important because employees not enrolled in benefits within 31 days from the date of hire or eligibility may be required to wait until the annual open enrollment period to enroll. Since employees pay a portion of their insurance premiums from the date of coverage, late participation in orientation could also result in payment of back premiums which could adversely impact an employee's paycheck.

Scheduling Orientation

Once an employee accepts a position eligible for benefits, the department designee or hiring official should contact Human Resources to schedule orientation. When it is scheduled, the employee will receive a confirmation letter and benefits information by mail.

• Policies, services and facilities
• Safety plans and programs including the Blood Borne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan, Hazard Communication Policy and Program, and Chemical Hygiene Plan
• Benefit programs such as Health, Dental, Life Insurance and more
• Parking, Alternative Transportation, Recreation Facilities, Emory Card

Enrolling in Benefits

After Orientation, employees can enroll in the benefit programs for which they are eligible through Employee Self Service.
