Frequently Asked Questions

General

Q: If I am a new hire, what happens if I miss the 31-day deadline to enroll?

A: If you miss the deadline to enroll, you are not able to elect coverage for the 2009 - 2010 plan year. Your next opportunity to enroll would be during the year if you have a qualified Family Status Change (see page 5 of the Benefits Enrollment Guide) or during next year's annual enrollment period. If you do not actively enroll, you will be defaulted into employee only-BCBSGA-PPO, life insurance and long term disability.

Q: How do I enroll, review my elections, or make changes?

A: You may access the online Employee Self Service enrollment system to review your current benefit elections and make any necessary changes.

Q: Did I have to re-enroll for benefits?(Current Medical House Staff)

A:Each year you should take a few minutes and review the programs in which you are currently enrolled.
Emory offers a passive enrollment, so if you do not elect to make any changes to your current choices,
you do not have to re-enroll for the upcoming plan year as most of your elections will transfer to the
next plan year. However, the IRS requires participants to re-enroll in the Healthcare and Dependent Day
Care Flexible Spending Accounts each year.

Medical

Q: Are there changes to the healthcare plans?

A: Always review the entire Benefits Enrollment Guide for all plan changes.

Q: Will I receive new ID cards?

A:If you make a plan choice or coverage level change to your current elections, you will receive a new ID card
by mid-July for your health and dental plans. ID cards will be issued to each family member covered
under the plans. Medco and Aetna only issue ID cards to new enrollees. If you do not receive your new ID cards by August 1, 2008, contact your health or dental plan vendor

Q: Where can I find a current list of providers?

A: You can log on to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia or Aetna for a current list of medical providers.

Q: How do I know if a doctor is in the Core Network?

A: Call your insurance carrier or access the carrier's web site.

Q: Is my dependent child who attends college out of state covered?

A: As long as they are a full-time student, your dependents can be covered up to age 25. BCBS-GA PPO and Aetna POS both have national networks so there are physicians available. Visit your insurance carrier's web site or contact their member services department to find a doctor.

Q: Am I covered for medical services if I travel abroad?

A: Yes, you are covered for emergency medical treatment when you are traveling out of the country. It is easier to process if you pay by credit card; the charge is converted to U.S. dollars. You should have your documentation translated into English. For all non-emergency services, please contact your provider prior to your visit.

Dental

Q: Where can I find a list of dental providers?

A: Go to www.compbenefits.com/custom/Emory for a list of dental providers.

Q: If I am currently enrolled in the Dental Access Plan, can I stay in the plan?

A: Yes, however the plan is now closed to new enrollments.

Vision

Q: What is my Vision Benefit?

A: You and your dependents have vision discounts at the Emory Eye Center. There are also discounts on vision through your health care provider. Eyeglass exams are subject to the Core Network office visit co-pay in each health plan.

Flexible Spending Accounts

Q: Do I have to re-enroll for Flexible Spending Accounts?

A: Yes, the IRS requires you to make a new election each year to participate in a Flexible Spending Account. There will be a special enrollment period in the fall for Flexible Spending Accounts only.

Q: What is the difference between the Health Care and Dependent Care (daycare) FSA?

A: A Health Care FSA can be used for reimbursement of eligible health care costs for you and your dependents. This includes over-the-counter medications*, contacts, eyeglasses, physician co-pays, prescription drugs etc., for you and your dependents that are not reimbursed by your health care plan.

Dependent Care FSA (daycare) is used for day care and summer camp fees for dependent children under age 13, and/or eldercare expenses for eligible disabled dependents who need care while while you are at work. You must be able to claim all dependents you are seeking reimbursement of expenses for on your income tax return as a dependent.

Q: What over-the-counter drugs are reimbursable through my Health Care Flexible Spending Account?*

A: The IRS has ruled certain over-the-counter medications such as antacids, allergy medicine, pain relievers and cold medicines purchased for personal use to alleviate or treat personal injuries or sickness can be reimbursed through a HealthCare FSA. Vitamins and dietary supplements are NOT eligible for reimbursements through a Health Care FSA. An itemized receipt is required to submit your claim*.

Q:Can I use my “Benny” card for both health care and dependent day care expenses for my 2009 Healthcare and Dependent Day Care FSA?

A:   Yes. UMR will load both limits (annually for the Healthcare FSA and by pay period for the Dependent Day Care FSA), each in their own separate fund, to your single “Benny” card. When you swipe the card, the merchant code will tell the card which fund to use to pay for the given expense. As always, when using your “Benny” card, be sure to keep all your receipts should you be requested to verify an expense at a later date.

Q: If I use my debit card (i.e. Benny card), do I need to keep my receipts?

A: Yes, UMR may request receipts for expense verification at a later time.

Important Notes

*Over-the-counter medications cannot be paid for with the debit card. However, you can submit a

Health Care FSA Claim Form

along with the receipts for reimbursement.
