COBRA

COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) is part of a federal law that allows employees who separate from employment the right to continue their current health and dental insurance, and to continue using their Flexible Spending Accounts.

COBRA

Eligibility

Emory employees who have their employment terminated are eligible for COBRA. You must have existing coverage in Health Care, Dental Care, or Health Care Flexible Spending Account.

How to Enroll

After your employment has been terminated, Emory's COBRA Administrator will send you information on COBRA enrollment and the cost of coverage under COBRA. Typically, you should receive this information approximately 15 to 30 days following your termination date. You have 60 days to enroll from the later of your event date or the date your COBRA enrollment packet is postmarked.

How to Change Other Affected Benefits

Changes are only permitted during the annual election period or within 31 days of a Family Status Change.

There may be some instances that allow you keep or to elect a different coverage; contact Emory's COBRA administrator with questions for your specific circumstance.
