New Benefit – Emergency Back-Up Care Coming Soon!

Emory University is excited to announce that beginning on January 1, 2016, benefits-eligible faculty and staff (along with students in the Laney Graduate School) will have access to Emergency Back-Up Care through a new partnership with Bright Horizons, a nationally known leader in child care. When you need to be at work, but experience an unexpected breakdown in your routine childcare or adult/elder care arrangement, Emergency Back-Up Care can provide quick access to secure, temporary caregiving services. Great American Smokeout Nov. 19
The Great American Smokeout Day (GASO) is November 19th.  The American Cancer Society started the national event to encourage tobacco cessation by establishing an official quit day. Throughout the week of November 16, several events are planned to promote GASO at Emory:

Take a pledge. Current smokers can pledge to try quitting on the official quit day. Non-smokers can also take a pledge to give up one of their own unhealthy habits to show support for their friends and colleagues who are trying to quit tobacco. Anyone who takes the pledge by noon on Nov. 19th, whether they are a smoker or non-smoker, will be entered into a drawing to win 1 of 2 Fitbit® Zips. A series of webinars and a lunch ‘n learn about tobacco will also be offered during the week. Learn more.


Faculty and Staff Invited to Join Emory Cares International Service Day
On November 14, the Emory community is invited to join forces to volunteer for Emory Cares International Service Day, a signature program of the Emory Alumni Association in partnership with Volunteer Emory. Co-sponsored by the Emory WorkLife Resource Center, this annual community service event has increased its volunteer participation each year since it was founded in 2003. Learn more.

Mindfulness Meditation 101
Are you curious about how mindfulness meditation works?  Come and learn how this practice can help you slowdown in the midst of daily pressures.  Experience ways to reorient yourself to the present so that you are not as caught up in your anxious thoughts. Fall Workshop Series for Caregivers
How to Build Your Caregiving Team: Learn the types of questions to ask and whom to look to for help when caring for an aging adult.  This workshop will discuss how to create your care team.  The panel will consist of a geriatrician, geriatric pharmacist and professional care manager who specialize in working with older adults. Winter Sports Camp at Emory University
Emory Total Sports Academy is happy to announce that we will be running multiple indoor camp sessions in December & January for kids 4-17 years old. Holiday season can be a hectic time of the year with little chance for your kids to blow off steam. Well, we have just the right program to make sure your kids stay active through the holiday season!

  • Session 1 Dates: December: 21, 22, 23, 24 9:00 am-4:00 pm
  • Session 2 Dates: December: 28 ,29, 30, 31 9:00 am-4:00 pm

Flu Vaccinations
It’s time to get a flu shot. The 2015-2016 vaccine will protect against three different flu virus strains: influenza A (H1N1) virus, influenza A (H3N2) virus, and influenza B virus. In order to be protected against seasonal influenza, you must get a flu shot each and every year. Emory Faculty and staff who are on the Emory medical plan (and their covered dependents) can receive a free flu vaccine. Learn more. 


Mandatory Title IX Training: Complete by Nov. 15
As a reminder to those who have not yet taken the Title X Training Course, this training is mandatory. Title IX training is an important and critical three year initiative specifically designed for Emory University. Over 77% of our faculty and 3389 staff members have completed the training. Please complete the training by November 15th. The training module will take approximately 45 minutes to complete. You may leave the course at any time and when you return, the course will open to the last page visited. Read more.
