Emory University Included In New Report on Workplaces That Support Caregivers

Emory University is one of 14 organizations highlighted in a new report, “Supporting Working Caregivers: Case Studies of Promising Practices” released by the AARP and the Respect a Caregiver’s Time Coalition (ReACT). The report highlights trends in policies and practices designed to support working caregivers, showcasing those organizations that are leading the way by providing a broad array of information resources and referrals, flexible work arrangements, paid time off for caregiving, emergency backup care, and, in some cases, high-touch counseling and care management advice.  Read the report.

PeopleSoft Upgrade Coming Later This Summer
Human Resources is very excited to announce a system upgrade to Self-Service/PeopleSoft will take place in September. Just ahead of Self Service, the Emory Learning Management System/ELMS will receive its upgrade in August. The new and improved PeopleSoft will offer many new features for all including a much better user experience. Look for more announcements about the upgrade soon!

Award of Distinction Nominations
Emory’s annual Award of Distinction is the university’s most prestigious award for university staff, recognizing those who have made outstanding contributions to the Emory community. Nominations for the award will open later this summer with a submission deadline of September 7, 2017. More details on the nomination process will be announced next month.  As a reminder, the submission deadline was moved to the fall to better coincide the awards program with Emory’s fiscal year and the annual performance review process.

The Emory WorkLife Resource Center is hosting its annual Back to School campaign during the months of July and August. The campaign includes not only web articles to help parents with issues related to their children going back to school, but also offers free informational workshops for employees and their partners: The College Admission Process: A Planning Workshop for High School Students & Their Parents (July 27, 12:00 - 1:30 pm), A Guide to Paying for College: Savings, Loans, Grants, Scholarships & Financial Aid (July 13, 12:00 - 1:30 pm), and Understanding K-12 School Options in Metro Atlanta (August 4, 12:00 - 1:30 pm). Upcoming Summer Caregiver Workshop
The Aid and Attendance benefit is one of the VA's best-kept secrets from our retired service men and women. Veterans over age 65 who are disabled can be eligible for as much as $2,127 per month in addition to any other VA pension or service related benefit they may receive. Surviving spouses can qualify for up to $1,153 per month. Update to Emory’s Personnel Records Retention Schedule
In collaboration with University Human Resources and General Counsel, an update of the personnel portion of Emory’s retention schedule has been completed. Under Policy 5.21, each department will maintain and dispose of records in compliance with Emory’s retention schedule. The schedule identifies and describes Emory’s records, provides direction for the length of time they must be kept, and identifies their method of disposition. The retention schedule applies to all records, regardless of format. To view the updated schedule, click here.

The entire University retention schedule is undergoing a similar review and revision process. To discuss changes or participate in future updates, contact the University Records Manager, Anita Vannucci at anita.vannucci@emory.edu.

With annual review to-do items popping up on calendars ahead of Emory’s fiscal year-end in August, the spring and summer months are a good time to scout out professional development opportunities for the upcoming year. Employees interested in digital scholarship and digital humanities may want to explore the Certificate in Digital Scholarship and Media Studies (DSMS), a joint initiative of the Laney Graduate School and the Emory Center for Digital Scholarship (ECDS).
