Important Notice Regarding Upcoming FLSA Changes
On May 18, 2016, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced changes to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), raising the salary threshold required to qualify for exemption from overtime to $47,476 per year, an increase from $23,660 per year. This is a significant change which is expected to impact approximately 1,000 Emory staff members, transitioning them from exempt status to non-exempt status (i.e. biweekly paid and overtime eligible).  Read more.

Emory University Wants You to “DUMP THE PUMP”
Emory University Transportation Services in partnership with the Clifton Corridor Transportation Management Association, GA Commute Options and MARTA wants you to try transit for a week and “Dump the Pump.” National “Dump the Pump Week” is June 13th thru June 17th.  Employees who are interested in trying bus or rail will have an opportunity to register for a complimentary MARTA Breeze™ card pre-loaded with 10 trips.  Registration runs thru June 3. Workshop: No Easy Answers: Legal and Ethical Considerations for Caregivers
It is often difficult for caregivers to support their loved ones when making complex medical and legal decisions.  For this in-person workshop, elder law attorney Paul Black will explore how caregivers and family members interact in difficult decisions, including:

  • Aging parents who wants to live at home (but cannot necessarily do so safely)
  • Disputes between spouses/partners and family members during a healthcare crisis
  • The rights of family members access to medical records
  • Unpopular financial decisions by an aging parent, and more
