Healthy Emory Steering Committee Update

healthyemoryEmory’s Healthy Emory initiative is well underway to help make healthy choices easier for faculty, staff and students. The Steering Committee is comprised of members from the university, Emory Healthcare, and the student body, the committee has been meeting monthly since November 2013 to analyze data, conduct a review of existing health resources, and develop a strategic plan to move Emory forward in the area of health and wellness. An Executive Committee, chaired by Dr. Linda McCauley, Dean of the School of Nursing, provides oversight and guidance to the steering committee and helps ensure that Emory’s leadership is committed to supporting the goals of Healthy Emory.

The Steering Committee and Executive Committee have developed the following vision for a Healthy Emory:
Emory is a community that is committed to creating and sustaining a culture of well-being, using its expertise in research, healthcare, and higher education to engage, inspire & support each individual to live healthy and flourish.
The Steering Committee has developed strategic goals and objectives that will move Emory forward toward this vision. Measurement, evaluation and research are important components of the strategic plan that will be considered in the very near future. Specific tactics to achieve each objective are also planned for the next coming weeks. For example, this may mean greater availability and accessibility to healthy vending machines in the future. It may also mean more healthful food choices in our cafeterias and cafes.

Our vision for a Healthy Emory is moving forward, and all who are involved are excited by the prospect of ensuring that health and well-being are core objectives here at Emory.
