HR Technical Services (HRTS) Department Honored with HR Excellence Award from CUPA-HR; Donates Winnings to Emory College

HR Technical Services (HRTS) has received the HR Excellence Award from the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA-HR)! This regional award honors transformative HR work in higher education, recognizing individuals or teams who have provided HR leadership resulting in significant and ongoing organizational change within their institutions.

HRTS is recognized for transforming Emory’s HR organization from a traditional, paper-based organization to a more sophisticated digital environment.  In the past, for something to get done in HR, a customer had to go off-campus, visit HR and fill out a form or attend an orientation.  Now, as a direct result of the hard work of the HRTS team, no HR transaction requires a trip to HR. A piece of paper is the rare exception, not the rule.

“By having an online orientation, our new employees are able to learn about our organization prior to their first day and complete the required forms in minutes and at their convenience,” says Pam Coltrane, Human Resources Director Pediatrics Administration with the School of Medicine. “This previously took an in-person meeting and much more time out of the individual’s and the HR Representative’s day.”

Khadijah Muhammad, Human Resources Specialist with Library & Information Technology Services adds, “As the timekeeper to over 250 student employees in the LITS division, using the Emory Timecard Adjustment System web application saves me a great deal of time on payroll Monday. Before the ETA application, I would spend close to 2 hours reviewing/making adjustments to student employees’ timecards.”

As part of this award, CUPA-HR, though the generous support of Valic, makes a contribution of $1,000 to the institutional endowment or scholarship fund of the recipient’s choice. The HRTS team selected to donate the funds to Emory College, to support financially challenged students planning to attend.
