Update on Changes to Performance Management

All Emory University employees will be evaluated on Emory’s new performance competencies starting in FY14 (for the evaluation period of Sept. 1, 2013-Aug. 30, 2014).

Over the past several months, the HR’s Learning and Organizational Development Department, in partnership with HR Reps and Personnel of several Emory Departments and Schools, has been delivering training to managers and supervisors on these new performance competencies. Training for non-manager employees will begin soon. Here is a quick update:

  • In-person Manager Training – Over 1,300 managers have now been trained on the new performance competencies.

  • Computer Based Training for Managers Available Soon – For those managers who did not have the opportunity to attend in-person training, a computer based training module will be available in mid-February.

  • Staff (non-manager) Training – Training materials for non-manager employees have been developed and HR’s Learning and Organizational Development will soon offer a few instructor-led general enrollment sessions. Registration will be made available on ELMS and will be announced in future issues of News You Can Use. Several Departments/Schools will offer their own training for their non-management staff, so employees should check with their local HR Rep first before considering a general enrollment session.  A computer-based training module will also be developed for those who cannot attend in-person training and is estimated to be available in early March.

  • Self-Service (PeopleSoft) Tool – The Performance Management Form will no longer be a paper form, but will be completed electronically through Self-Service /PeopleSoft. The new tool has been developed and is currently being tested. Training will be offered in the form of a webinar (there will be separate webinars for managers and non-managers). Webinar dates and times will be announced in News You Can Use. For those who cannot take the webinar, a recorded version will be available.

  • Performance Management Webpage – The Performance Management webpage has been updated with some new materials. Mid-year review forms are now available in MS Word and pdf format. Self-evaluation and Manager Evaluation forms are also available, for both manager and non-manager employees. These are a temporary solution for those who need to do the mid-year review now before the PeopleSoft tool is available.

  • The “Service to Others/Customer Focus” competency is no longer optional – This competency is now a part of the core group of Emory competencies for everyone.  This is based on feedback received during the manager training sessions. Materials on the website have been updated to reflect this change.
